A presentation or a performance? Both!

On September 16 & 17th Jan Snook’s “A Matter of Heart: River Runs and Heart Attacks” took us on a journey of near-fatal heart attacks (yes, plural), her love of denial, triple bypass surgery, family bonding and much more. In 200, shortly after having had a thorough physical and being proclaimed to be in perfect health, Jan had her first attack after which she was told that she was “one lucky lady”.

  
 

Going on to describe (all in verse) triple bypass surgery and subsequent heart attacks, Jan told us that (i) one out of two women will die of heart disease in the U.S., (ii) women have different and subtler signs of heart disease and (iii) we should all learn to be an advocate for our own health. Never knowing when the next heart attack might strike, she still considers herself to be “in a little club of lucky people”.
